Please ensure you comply with current government guidance both when travelling to / from and during the event. This can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
After booking, you will be sent a COVID-19 declaration form. Please fill in this form and return it to your guide by email the day before the event (you will receive an email reminder to do this). On arrival at the session you will be asked to confirm that the declaration is still correct. Regretfully, if you do not provide this declaration or fail to confirm it remains correct then you will not be allowed to participate in the session. This is for safety of your guide and other participants.
Please respect your guide and other participants before, during and after the event by maintaining social distancing and hygiene measures. Wilder Lives reserves the right to ask a participant to leave if they are not complying with government guidance.
Your guide will not be wearing a face covering during the session and we do not require participants to wear these either, as long as safe distancing is maintained (this is compliant with current government guidelines on people meeting in an outdoor space). This will allow you to receive the full therapeutic benefit of being in the forest atmosphere. (NB – Bear in mind however that the venue may require you to wear a face covering to access food or indoor facilities, should you wish to use these before or after the session).
Please remember tissues and hand sanitizer!
After booking, you will also be sent a registration form. Please complete this and return it to your guide by email as soon as possible and at least 24 hours before the start of the event. The details requested in the form are to allow us to provide you with a safe and effective session: all participants must provide a completed and signed registration form in order to participate.
Our events are for adults 18+ only. No dogs or other pets allowed.
During the session we are likely to cover 1.5-2.5 kilometres – this will be at a slow pace. Unfortunately, however, Forest Bathing+ is not currently suitable for anyone using a wheelchair, or with severe mobility limitations – if you have any questions or concerns please contact us prior to the event.
Forest Bathing+ is a gentle activity and is very safe for most people to engage in. However, all activity outdoors involves some risk, and by taking part you assume full responsibility for your own well-being.
As with any event taking place outdoors in woodland, the terrain will be varied and there are likely to be various potential hazards – please follow your guide’s instructions at all times. We will endeavour to highlight risks and guide you as safely as possible but please note that you may come across issues such as tree roots, low-hanging branches, slippery surfaces, slopes, and steps. As the venue is open to the public we may also encounter other walkers, pets, horses and cycles etc.
Forest Bathing+ is normally a relaxing experience. However, you may find that strong emotions surface at times during the session: this is a normal reaction as we slow down and release tension and it is likely that such emotions will disperse naturally.
Medical conditions / medications / pregnancy:
If you have any medical conditions, are on a prescribed medication, or have any health-related concerns, we strongly advise you to see your GP prior to the session and discuss attending with them.
In addition, if you currently experience or have a history of serious health issues (including mental health issues, operations, medical procedures, seizures, implants, and special needs), please also let us know before the session. Informing us will help us look after you and make sure the session is appropriate.
Forest Bathing+ may not be suitable for those in the first trimester of pregnancy: we would advise you to avoid attending during this period.
Clothing and provisions:
Our sessions take place in a variety of weather conditions. Your body temperature can lower significantly as we move slowly in the forest and stop regularly so it is easy to get cold, even in the warmer months. First-time forest bathers often say they wish they’d worn more layers! Please therefore wear / bring clothing suitable for the outdoors that will keep you warm and dry (long trousers and sleeves, multiple layers, coat / jacket), and appropriate shoes with good grip and ankle support (preferably waterproof – walking boots are ideal). For your own safety, Wilder Lives reserves the right to refuse participation in the session if you are not wearing appropriate clothing / footwear. This is at your guide’s discretion and their decision is final.
We recommend you bring a picnic mat or groundsheet (or a large bin bag will do) to use during some exercises. If you feel you may have a problem with standing for long periods or if being on the floor is not suitable for you, you may wish to bring a small foldable chair to sit on.
Bring tissues and hand sanitizer and, if required, waterproofs, sun protection, drinking water, and any food or medications you need.
Please note that you will need to carry anything you bring with you. We recommend using a rucksack so that you can have your hands free.
If it is necessary for us to cancel a session we will give you as much notice as possible and you will be offered the opportunity to switch to an alternative Wilder Lives session or a full refund. Cancellation may be necessary:
- If it is not safe to proceed. Forest Bathing+ is an all-weather activity (and rain can actually bring extra benefits to a session!), but severe conditions may mean we need to cancel. This is most likely in the event of high winds, thunderstorms, or extreme cold.
- If a) your guide contracts COVID-19 or develops coronavirus symptoms, or is otherwise required to isolate (e.g. having been contacted by NHS Test and Trace), or b) required by local or national COVID-19-related restrictions.
- If the minimum number of participants for the session (normally three) is not met.
If you are no longer able to attend the event, please let us know as soon as possible to enable others to benefit from the session. Refunds (less the Eventbrite booking fee) are available up to 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of the event. No refunds will be issued in case of non-attendance or late arrival, or if you are asked not to participate in a session due to inappropriate clothing or failure to provide a COVID-19 declaration / comply with COVID-19-related guidance.
In order not to affect other participants’ enjoyment of the session, we are unable to wait more than five minutes past the start time for late-comers. Sessions involve moving around the woodland (including off normal paths) so after this time we may not be at the meet point and it may not be possible to give you directions to join us.
The information contained in any paperwork you complete will be treated as confidential and will be securely stored and used only for the purposes of a) providing Forest Bathing+ sessions in a safe and effective manner; and b) where consent has been given, to receive e-newsletters providing details of news and upcoming events from Wilder Lives.
